OUR MISSION

Our mission is to elevate the level of accountability, transparency, and community responsiveness, while fully realizing the mandate of Port Authorities.

We are a diverse group representing many areas of Metro Vancouver. We want better from an institution like the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority that wields extraordinary power with few checks and balances. We fear the Port is no longer faithfully fulfilling its mandate to:

  • promote and safeguard Canada’s competitiveness and trade objectives
  • contributing to the competitiveness, growth and prosperity of the Canadian economy
  • ensure that marine transportation services are organized to satisfy the needs of users and are available at a reasonable cost to the users
  • be responsive to local needs and priorities
  • takes into account, input from users and the community in which a port or harbour is located

Today the Port has become too focused on extracting maximum rents at the expense of community and economic development goals. Worse, the Port acts as both regulator and proponent and it awkwardly straddles a grey area between government and private business.

We encourage you to join the conversation about land use, transportation, and governance.
